Ink pens and markers in architectural drawings.
Katie B who goes by i_urban_sketch on Instagram drew all of the art you see on this page.
This post can be divided into black and white ink sketches and coloured with markers. There are things that attract me to both. Katie has done colour versions of many, if not most, of the black and white drawings. Still, I have chosen some from one category and some from the other.
Perfect examples of what I have said in the paragraph above can be seen in the two images below.
Firstly we have this ornate but weathered building. There are so many beautiful details, but also signs of the age and tiny telltale aspects of its need of some tlc. Or does it? That part of the crumbled plaster just seems to add to the look of the facade, as does the considerate colouring the artist has applied. A beautifully picturesque house that is there to show off great design.
The second image seems to be the one of a cosy cottage. The little vespa moped is waiting to zip the owner off from the house to wherever they fancy going. Wonderful and simple details seem to pepper this drawing. They truly make this place look cosy and charming. From the details on the door, the lovely letterbox to the potted plants and that lovely little window.
So much atmosphere can be conjured with seemingly simple and fantastic looking sights. What do you think?
