Drawing the Fantastic and Surreal World of Hoekstra

We featured Visual Artist and Illustrator Redmer Hoekstra for the first time, almost a year ago "Surreal Animals".  Today we bring you more of his Fantastic and Surreal work.  He has always had an interest in the internal mechanisms of things, reinventing them, associating inanimate objects with animated ones and sometimes inanimate with inanimate.  The drawings are all achieved using ink on paper and it is very important that they are as realistic as possible, to sell the effect.  Were a drawing did not have a title we have added one to them.  Each Drawing roughly take 30 to 40 hours to complete.

Body Painting or Face Drawing Illusions?

We would like to start by saying that these pictures are not mirror images or photo manipulation.  German Artist Sebastian Bieniek achieves this fantastic effect by drawing on the faces of the models and cleverly disguising the middle of their face.  The amazing thing about these drawings is, that the effect is so convincing, even though the drawn images are far from hyper realistic.  In the mirror effect and in the sideways images, Bieniek makes fantastic use of the eyes to set up the proportions of the face or faces and completes the illusion with fantastic photo angles.  These photographs, first came out in 2013 but, we thought that they were too good to pass up and we are glad to make them part of our, ever growing, body painting collection.

Vintage Comics in Hyper-Realistic Painting

Yes, as you may have guessed by the title, these are not photographs, but very realistic paintings, by talented artist, Doug Bloodworth.  He was heavily influenced by American Western Classics, from a young age, which he is now able to express, together with pop culture, in his realistic paintings.  Throughout his carer, he has worked trough several genres of art, that span form painting caricatures to billboards.  He is now concentrating his art, around this fascinating and realistic art form, mixed with a bit of nostalgia.
