Fluid Symmetry - Body Drawings

Drawings - Sketchbook
Symmetry is a thing of beauty. Some studies have discovered that humans prefer symmetric faces and consider them more pleasing than the ones that are not. Symmetry in a face can be seen like this: if you were to draw a vertical line down the centre of the face dividing it in half and the components (eyes ears etc.) are of the same size and the same height on the face. Heather Hansen does this perfectly in her drawings, using her entire body, in a dance like motion to produce these fantastically fluid creations. We have included in the article a video showing the process. This collections of charcoal drawings on paper are called "Emptied Gestures" and photographed by Spencer Hansen and Bryan Tarnowski.
