When Michelle and Andy wanted to live in central Hong Kong, one of the most expensive cities in the world, they realised that their budget only stretched to cover, a small flat 309ft² (29m²). Architects LAAB made sure to stretch the flat with their smart design techniques, that allowed the space to be used in many different ways. The brief included: a full kitchen, large bathtub, home cinema, gym, cat friendly spaces and plenty of storage. A series of app-controlled devices, pepper the flat, to make it modern and user friendly. The video below + the images will give you a clearer image of this smart flat.

There are many ways of heating up your favourite drink. Most of them are either inefficient or, in the case of the kettle, over filling causes a waste of electricity. Jasmina Grase and Nils Chudy bring us MIITO, place your cup, bowl, glass, teapots, and any other non-ferrous vessel, onto the induction base, immerse the heating rod in the liquid, and let the liquid boil. MIITO can also heat milk for your coffee or a bowl of soup. MIITO is currently raising money on Kickstarter (a crowd funding site) and to date has raised 3 times more than their original pledge, so it will be made and sold. More information in the video, GIF animations and images below.

Taiwanese Designer Austin Yang is the creator of the "iTypewriter" an old style typewriter to be used for your iPad. He wanted to recapture the old feeling of the typewriter's weighted keys. We are not sure if the volume is turned up too high, or if the keys are hitting the screen with too much force, but that does not sound too good. This video made an appearance on YouTube some time ago and we have found no sign of it, being constructed commercially. If you are one of those people that have not made the leap to electronic devices, or that likes all things retro, this is for you. Below a video to show how it works.

As Dutch engineering student Dave Hakkens, creator of this concept points out, "Electronic devices Are Not designed to last". With the Phonebloks you would be able to construct your phone, the same way you build with Lego. You can then upgrade or replace damaged components and customise it to suit your needs.
