Recycled Shipping Containers Home

A great example of what can be done with recycled shipping containers.
Architect Maria Jose Trejos, used 8 x 40 foot shipping containers, to form most of the structure of this amazing home / office building.  If you look at the pictures below, you can see each room and detail, compete to be the most beautiful, I keep scanning up and down, to pick 2, to make the title photo and I just can't make up my mind.  The following are some of the words form Trejos, to describe the materials utilised for this project, (it is a Google translation of Trejos' mother tongue, Spanish): "several considerations were taken into account so that the house had the lowest possible environmental impact, both in design, materials, as well as systems for the conservation of energy. For example, this was considered in the choice of materials, so that they are renewable, reusable or recyclable, in addition to being durable and low maintenance materials. The deck was built with certified wood from renewable sources and mixed with recycled plastic. Recommended concrete floors and bamboo, rainwater collection systems for toilets and irrigation and planned for solar panels, among others."

  1. Very creative. I like how they used the containers as framework instead of limiting the housing to the container size itself. I especially like the openness of the design and all the glass letting in the light.

    1. Absolutely, a design that makes the best use of both, the prefabricated / recycled part plus the new build one and together they achieve more than just the sums of their parts. I hope you have a fantastic Tuesday.
