Lighthearted Ink Drawings

Back and white ink drawings that are perfect for a Sunday.

German Artist Julia Bangert is also an illustrator and a book illuminatior. Most of us are familiar with the first, but less so with the latter.

A book illuminatior is one that adds embellishments to a book's page. They come in many different forms. You usually find them on the first page of a book or a chapter. The more fancy the book, the more you have. The first letter of the beginning is worked on as a piece of art and is much larger than the rest. There can be floral patterns, images and all sorts of colorful additions that make the black and white page stand out. Check out this link (book illumination) and you will recognise the practice immediately.

I love the artistry that goes into it and the look of the page when it's completed. It's a cross between a painting and a book.

The following are illustrations that bring a smile to your face and lightness of spirit, which makes you feel like you are levitating. That is the effect I hope it has on you. Have a wonderful Sunday.
