Charcoal and 1 Pastel Portrait Drawings

Charcoal (1 pastel) Humans and animals tag-team throughout this page.

I love how Artist Josh Hernandez creates his portraits. So many different approaches, always maintaining the weight of emotions channelled through the expressions we see in them.

Some of my favourites are also the more abstract in this post. Specifically drawings 8 and 9... Starting with 9: If you look at it at small scale the image is quite defined and recognisable. If you press it, it will enlarge and you will see how the lines start taking over the features of the face, making them fall into the background. Then there is number 8. A group of people and faces that stand apart and blended together at the same time. A chorus that sings with one voice.

There is something good to say about all of them. I will limit it though to my favourite ones. Actually there is one more... Drawing number 2. That sweet touch between the two faces really carries the feelings off the page as it burns so strong and bright inside you.  As if you were one of those faces taking part in the moment...

Ps. I gave the images some titles.

  1. what i llike in the first few drawings is the softness, yet the strength of character come through loud and clear. the ones below w the blocking seem to lose that aspect for me.

    1. I know what you mean, different styles and intensity. Definitely a change of pace.
Glad you like them, have a fantastic start to the weekend.🍃️🌺️🍃️DS
