Charcoal drawings with real design flair.
Pankov Roman includes a very pleasant duality in these portraits. They have aspects of sketches and ones of realism. The features are drawn perfectly to resemble the detailing in a photo whilst the surroundings have a less that realistic look about them.
For me, it's this contrast which elevates the illustration. It almost looks like adding another dimension to them. Now that I have seen them like this... If they were finished entirely in the realistic style, the images would seem to be missing something.
Can you imagine what I have just explained? How does it look in your mind?
