As mentioned above, the ornate and intricate design work which goes on behind the portrait, serves to single out the face. They highlight all of the expressions, which appear on the different models.
A lovely collection of looks which can mean so many different things. They might have been caused or inspired by events, stories, infinite in number.
As well as appreciating the skill which went into them, we are sat here looking and wondering... What are they really thinking of? The looks don't give us certainty, but definitely a clue as to what it might be...
