An artist that loves to capture her views on on the spot.
Anastasia Kústova is a Russian artist and painter, today we are going to concentrate on her watercolor paintings, specifically her Plein Air ones. En Plein Air, is french and literally means outdoors, many artists make sketches and notes, or take photographs of the location, or subjects they want to transfer to canvas, go back to their studio and then start the painting. Plein Air artists like Kústova, skip the first part and start painting on location. This brings some advantages and disadvantages: you get to capture the perfection of the light and colors, in a way that a very good camera can only approximate, you get to soak in the atmosphere of the place, that can only help to inspire the work. Some of the drawbacks include, the weather, your time might be limited on site, having to carry around all of the equipment... The artists that choose this kind of experience, seem to be the ones that that prize, amongst everything else, the live action and the totally immersive feeling, that comes with this process.
