Seemingly random ink and charcoal lines, bring together beautiful semi-hidden portraits
Liz Y Ahmet is the artist that uses a wonderful technique called scribble to draw her portraits. The name is simple, very concise and to the point; in a way that you would be forgiven to think translates to simple, accidental, aimless or arbitrary. When you really look into the portrait, you see they are everything but.
Don't get me wrong, I love them all, but the ones that really fascinate me are the extremes. The ones with very few lines and loads of them.
The very few, because it just points out the fact that we don't need much to recognise a face, with a full complement of expressions. See the fourth drawing down, as an example of this.
On the opposite side of the scale, are the ones that looks like there might be too many lines; "it's too busy, no way are you going to be able to make anything out of it." But that is not the case at all, just look at the third drawing down as an example. Do you see what I mean?
A different perspective to drawing in general and in this case, specifically about portraits.
