11 Charcoal and 1 Pastel Portrait

WIPs show the progression of the work.

Sookyi Lee kindly gives us a step by step progression of the work, which leads to these lovely portraits. Most, black and white in charcoal and one in color, using pastel colors.

I find that looking at art is like having a conversation. One of those where you do the listening and the other party does the talking. A conversation where the other side knows your thoughts and shapes what is telling you, based on what you understand and know.

A look at these portraits makes the point better than I ever could. You look at the faces and their expressions speak... You can't mistake a sad or solemn face, for happy one. But you can imagine how that expression might be just about to change. Like in the eleventh picture below, where you might think it's sad, but turns out to be focused on the story she is being told.

In art like in life, sometimes things are straightforward and sometimes they are not.

That is what keeps it interesting and on tenterhooks for the next episode of reality. A brand-new week starting tomorrow and the chance of an amazing and interesting storyline waiting for you to enact it...   Have a great start to your week.
