Paintings of a Surreal Life

Paintings that depict what is normal, in surreal worlds.

Polish Illustrator and painter Rafal Olbinski is a favourite here. One of the first artists we featured.

Artists like him, help us question the definition of normal. I am not trying to suggest that any of his art is (that is a good thing), but it pushes us not accept that word as an immovable boundary; something that is set in stone.

We are brought up to think that everything on the right side of the word is OK and comfortable. The ones on the wrong side, are to be viewed with suspicion and should make you feel uncomfortable.

I am not saying that you should be OK with everything, just not to let another's definition of normal, dictate your thoughts.

There is a skism when it comes to that word. We are all told that normal is what we have to and want to strive for (you don't want to be abnormal). But then the people that are truly special, or the acts which are seen as amazing, are never normal. Normal in that context is a lesser thing...

Look beyond superficial definitions and first impressions. You have to do just that, to really see these illustrations...

Ps. I gave the images some titles.

  1. These are refreshing as far as the words they create vs a lot of "imagination" paintings and drawings that are more political or sometimes on the dark side.
    I really like these.

    1. I am glad you like them and that they mean something to you.
