The following, is the work of Filipino-American Illustrator and Artist Christopher Cruz.
Scratchboard is defined by Wikipedia as: "Sharp knives and tools used for etching into a thin layer of white China clay coated with black India ink". For the coloured ones, more layers of clay in different colours are laid, so that the deeper the incision the more colours are available to the artist.
Lovely critters which increase in cuteness, thanks to this style and medium. The black background acting as a highlighter to anything drawn in the lighter colour in the foreground.
