Emotions channeled into expressions on sanguine color pencil portraits.
French Artist Alanrap drew all of the human depictions on this page.
Color pencils bring out so much out of a portrait. It's not a competition between them and graphite ones; it's just a different dimension and experience.
I love the choice of models and the poses Alanrap is able to capture.
I like them all and that is why I chose them. In the same breath, I say I do have some favourites:
I start with the 1st drawing. A wonderful expression that contains layers. One that doesn't immediately tell you the full story behind that look. It is definitely going to require more investigation...
My second pick is also the 2nd drawing down. The quiet intensity of that look. The lighting and the hair that partially cover on one side and exposes the other... They all play a part in giving this face a depth and a feeling of reality. You know that is a drawing, at the same time, it feels like a real person looking through the layers of you.
Lastly, the 4th drawing down. The central pillar of this piece is the hat. It created the shadows on the face, allowing the light to highlight the detailing on the man. The eyebrows expressed in waves, pointing towards the centre of the head. Finally, a meaningful expression that says a lot without uttering a single word...
