Because these illustrations were drawn off of a prompt, they hold meaning beyond the figure which acts as the principle in them. The clothing, the scene and the details, all play a part in connecting to that initial clue.
Sweet and sometimes funny depictions, work perfectly even without the main reason of the theme.
The daydreaming raccoon is definitely one of my favourites. That dreamy expression with the full moon behind it, gives an air of perfect serenity. The next image seems to contrast it beautifully. It almost looks like a young gorilla in a timeout. Sitting there sulking, whilst waiting for the punishment to be over. The quality of the stippling in the bumblebee drawing and the cuteness of the young rat in his cool clothing, are two more great pieces.
I could carry on, but I will let you explore these characters and the rest of Martino's creations.
