I really like how Rousseau jumps between styles, mediums and subjects. Animals, people, creatures and superheroes.
Furthermore: Movie depictions, both in animated format and realistic ones. Caricature of portrait design studies. Sketches and more realistic ones...
There is so much to this post, rather than what is not immediately obvious. It's only when you look with a little more attention that you see...
Amongst my favourites: The bird sketches. They are lovely highlights. A kind of minimalist hints of the bird species they seek to capture.
There are many more that would deserve some words spoken about them, but I can't think of them now, as my absolute favourite is waiting impatiently to be mentioned. That is the surreal "Turtle Island". I will break it up in bullet points: The concept - The soft delicate application of the ink/graphite - The intensity of the drawing - The way the artist has left the drawing overall sparse of detailing, wanting to concentrate all of it on the sea turtle and partly on the island section. The detailing in the flippers and the expression on the face.
