Surreal Numerical Photography - Virtual Paintings

French Photographer Jean-François Rauzier coined the name, Hyperphoto which is a mixture of hundreds and sometimes thousands of pictures, very big and very small, from all different angles, to create one final one.  He collects many pictures of a subject and then uses Photoshop to place them in the the right place and the right prospective, like you would do with a puzzle.  Rauzier's work is very fluid and incredible detailed, most of the time he doesn't have a final picture in his head when he takes the photographs.  They come together when he gets the various components and can then see what fits where.  We have included a video, that is in French and subtitled in English, it will give you a better understanding of his fantastic process.

Rosie Hardy is a professional Photographer based in the United Kingdom, who has a real gift for taking pictures with a dreamlike quality to them.  She puts her models, some times herself, in costumes, locations and expressions that give her photos an otherworldly, serene and relaxing feeling.  That said there is a section on the middle of the post, where Hardy examines fear and darker subjects.  Enjoy...

Surreal Artificial Reef Photography

Austrian Photographer and Photo Manipulator Andreas Franke marries old sunken ships with models in costumes, to create lovely surreal images.  Today we are covering two of his projects, the SS Stavronikita (devastated by fire 20 years ago) and the USS Mohawk, a historic WWII warship.  Both ships have been used as artificial reefs for decades, that only divers and the fish were able to enjoy, now all this has changed.  The photos taken on the SS Stavronikita feature models dressed from the Rococo Period (18th century artistic movement born in Paris, France).  On the the USS Mohawk the scene is a more modern one, taking costumes from the 20th century.   Images of the models, are then expertly superimposed on the images of the ship.  When the project was completed, images of the finished work were encased in Steel-Framed Plexiglas and left on the ships as a record.

Italian Photographer Elido Turco, uses Photoshop to mirror images pictures, he takes in the forest to create amazing faces.  People have a propensity to see faces in things, it is said that we begin recognising faces and start learning to identify expressions on people, from between 2 and 3 years old.  You can definitely see a variety of them, on these images.
Another Post that dealt with faces, is the most popular post on our site, this is a link "Making Art and Faces with Everything".

Jason M Peterson grew up playing in hardcore punk rock bands, with an in interest in photography and design.  When he realised that music was not going to be as big a part of his future as it had been of his past, so he concentrated on the other two.  This is a sample of the lovely work that Peterson produces, we mostly picked his architecturally inspired photographs, as these are the ones we love the most.

Lori Nix is different from most Photographers as she doesn't go out to find her subject but creates / constructs them to scale in her studio.  An all rounder Nix has to construct paint and photograph her miniature worlds. She does it all without the use of photoshopping software.  This part of her work has a distinctive Post Apocalyptic feel about it.

Korean Artist Beomsik Won, creates Photographic Architectural Sculptures.  Amongst the many photos on his site, we have chosen a selection of Black and White images to bring to you.  The style of composition is not always the same, sometimes he gets different buildings and positions into a bigger structure.  Other times he gets one image and copies it like in the Colosseum and Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, below.  A lot of work goes into making sure that these buildings look like they belong together, from lighting, shadows and the impression / illusion of a perfect fit.

Neda Vent Fischer is a photographer with a difference,  originally from Yugoslavia, she now works out of Paris in France.  Her site does not describe the process she utilises to come up with these beautiful pictures.  A hint may be that she describes herself as a Fine Artists, Photographer, Illustrator.  They look to us like these pictures might be a mixed media project, that might include photographs and digital art.  But please don't let the, how, distract you from enjoying these beautiful images...

With a background in Graphic Design, German Artist Catrin Weiz-Stein creates these Surreal images, Digitally, constructed as a collage of old Photographs and Illustrations.  She originally created these compositions for herself, but when she joined social networks and her work was appreciated by her viewers, she made more to satisfy her new fans.  If you need more material to feed and inspire your dreams, have a look at the images in the article, there are possibilities for multiple sleep stories, in each picture.  Which is the picture that makes you daydream the most?  Let us know at the bottom.  To get the best effect, once in the article you can enlarge the image by pressing it (not the first one).

Photography & Photo Manipulations in Surreal Worlds

Swedish Photographer and Photo Manipulator Erik Johansson will amaze you in this post.  We have featured him before, but this time he has surpassed himself.  We have added videos to show you how he does it, even though they are sped up frame videos.  The first video is a prank, where Johansson has to retouch images live.  The difference between Photographer and Photo Manipulator?  The first captures a moment in time, the second is someone that comes up with a concept and then constructs that moment in time, to be captured.

Photography with Animal Faces of the Wild

Freelance American Photographer Devin Mitchell is a high end photographer but, is known for his photo manipulations.  Mitchell superimposes the images of animal faces on human models and blends them.  He is different from most of the artist that deal with this concept, because it isn't a straight swap, you can still see some of the features of the human, covered by fur, pay special attention, it is done really well, with some having more coverage than others, where it is more subtle.

Here on DesignStack we don't do much photography, but we thought that Dutch Photographer Wil Mijer and her vibrantly coloured photographs, were too good to pass-up.  We have cropped the size of the image to keep the frogs as big as possible, you can purchase the full size on her page.  Mijer photographs all sort of small creatures, but we have chosen to concentrate on the frogs and the beautiful tones and colours of her pictures.  Because of the shape of the frog's mouth they always looks like they are smiling, we hope it brings a smile on your face.
