Louis Smith, is a classically trained portrait painter, now living and working in the heart of Manchester. Even though he is better known for his portrait paintings, the aspect of his artwork that most fascinates me, are his charcoal portrait studies. Portrait paintings can be beautiful, but drawings... for me they just add the something special, that I don't see in other forms of art. I am sitting down thinking about the reason, but I can't come up with an answer, they just speak to me in a more direct way, they almost bypass my eyes and go straight to the pleasure centre, in the brain. :)
