Wave Like Style Minimalist Pencil Portraits

A portrait, is drawing, a likeness of a person.  That said there are so many different mediums and styles that can be used, that you are almost assured to find uniqueness.
That is why I never tire of seeing them, or any kind of art, there is always something, big or small that makes it different from everything else that is out there.  Belgian artist Thomas Letor, has this wavelike way of drawing the skins in his portraits, it's the detail that I find really interesting and beautiful.  They almost look like the carvings on the rocks after centuries or millennia of a river passing through it and when the water disappears, it leave these wonderful lines, that hug the contours of the rock.  I would love to know where he got his inspiration from.
