Pencil Portrait Tanned Paper Drawings

Portraits depicted in realism with aspects that include a sketch finish.

Travis Seymour drew all of the faces you see on this page.

These drawings have a warm, cosy and almost familiar look about them.  They are a set of realistic drawings that have additional textures that are not usually present within hyper realism.  Let me make the point a little clearer:  Realism can look quite cold if they are too technical and too clean.  In most of these drawings, there is a divide.  Part of it is in a more sketch-like format.  The amount varies and that is what gives the look more balance.

Expressions, hair and beards are the details that have a bigger effect on me.  The level of detailing does not have to be photographic to impress me.  To give you an example, look at the hair on the tenth image down.  The amount of detailing fades as you travel farther from the head.  Still, you can see the directions and the strands all the way down to their ends.  For another example of that transition, have a look at drawing number four.

The beard title goes to drawing number three and it has the same beautiful characteristics as the head hair I just mentioned.

Then there are looks.  They vary in intensity.  From more overt to covert and subtle hints at possible meanings.  I have many favourites in this category.  The one that wins it for me is image number two.  We see the glasses taking a supporting role in this expression and the person giving that very famous and distinctive look above the glasses.  It's an international look.  It can mean various things and the difference is the reason that caused the above glasses look.  It can be menacing as it can be sweet.  The occasion and infraction are going to be the deciding factors as to where you are going to be on that scale.  The more the head is bent down, the more striking the effect is.

Now it's time to enjoy Seymour's art...

Ps. I gave the images some titles.
