Pencil portrait drawings that are then coloured and finished in digital art.
American Artist Marcela Eckles aka Malamila created all of the images you see below.
It's a fantastic process. It's not one that sees the pencil drawing lost in the transformation. I will give you an example: Many paintings have a pencil drawing as their base. When you paint it, the pencil drawing transforms and it is lost in this process. In this case, the transformation occurs on the computer as soon as the original image is digitised. That means that at the end of the digital work, you have two pieces. You have the original drawing in traditional art form on a sheet of paper and separate from that, you have a coloured digital version of it.
I like this separation because there are qualities I like in both formats. This way, you get to keep enjoying both of them.
If you put both mediums side by side, as I did on top, you will see they are similar but not the same. That is a difference that really matters when a subtle detail can make a big difference.
The style of the colouring has a warm, vintage and slightly fantasy feel about it. One that is not seeking realism, but a beautifully strange alternative that can't help but impress. Or at least that is my hope for you.
Ps. I gave the images some titles.
