In today's post you will find a collection of drawing studies in graphite to provide many pages of references.
Mitch Leeuwe drew all of the art you see on this page.
Have a look at the first drawing and the range of motion in a bag of flour. Who would have said that looking at a page full of bags of flour would be interesting? And yet, it works so well. It's a simple shape that can be morphed into all sorts of positions to show dynamism in the sketch. Arrows are there to show the direction of the movement and the stitching on the side is there to help see how the body of the objects twists and bends to achieve its new position. A simple object that gives you a real sense of form and weight.
The third drawing down is of an owl. In this depiction, Leeuwe uses the bird to show different poses. It has an array of expressions and it's shown in different drawing styles. You can see it standing, flying and pointing. These are all ways of showing different parts of the animal's anatomy.
This post has a lot to appreciate by a viewer and a lot to learn as an artist. Go through these images and really pay attention to the lessons that are waiting to be imparted. Happy viewing and learning.
Ps. I gave the images some titles.
