Painting on Leafs + Butterfly Painting on Sheet Music

American Artist Janette Rose, has always loved to use art and painting in particular, to demonstrate her love for nature.  In today's post we are going to feature, 2 distinct mediums, which she uses to immortalise it.  The fist is her paintings on leafs, each framed leaf sells for $185.00.  We have included below a description of the process written by Janette.  Further down, the second part, the butterflies painted on sheet music.  We have also included a video showing her painting it.

Drawing, Painting, Tips, and Digital Art

Dino Tomic aka AtomiccircuS, works as a tattooist as his day-job and produces a lot of art in different mediums, in his spare time, Traditional and Digital Art drawings and paintings.  Tomic pushes himself to try and experiment with new styles and new mediums, looking around at artists that peak his interest, once he learns the technique he personalise it making it is his own.  One thing he seems convinced about is that, you have to perfect the art and style that you know and you have to strive to learn more from the people around you, to increase your knowledge of art, never stay static, experiment.  We have included a video comprising tips, from Tomic + one of his sped-up video drawings, this is the one, of Gollum, from Lord of the Rings.

Hand - Body Painting - Transferred to Paper

Russell Powell from Pangaean Studios, is an Artist and a really cool Teacher.  He draws portraits of every day people and the occasional celebrity, on his hand and then, using it as a stamp, he transfers the drawing on the sheet of paper.  The unusual procedure, of creating art in this way, is what drew us to Powell, we have chosen the images that include both, the hand drawn original and the stamped copy.  Enjoy...

Figurative Painting in Cityscapes Oil Paintings

Jeremy Mann is an accomplished American Artist who captures Human Figures, Landscapes, Still Life and Urban Cityscapes, with oil paints.  In today's post we are going to focus on the last of these subjects, the Urban Cityscapes.  Mann's work is characterised by the absence of sharp details, that you might get in a photograph, the view is sketchy and almost invites our brains to fill in the the painting.  You can look at them as small windows into the beautiful cities they represent where, the images have not come into focus completely and we are getting glimpses, details, of the beauty they have in store for us.

Nathalia Suellen in an independent artist and commercial illustrator, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Suellen brings together photography, 3D and digital painting to great effect.  She is self-taught and is inspired by the worlds of fashion photography, fairy-tales, antique engravings, retro, horror and post-apocalyptic themes.  Even though, at first glance her work appears very strong and dark, it is wrapped around with beautiful photography, incredible costumes and carefully chosen colour schemes that give these images a lovely surreal feel.  Enjoy...

Living Art in Body Painting

Body Painting Artist Gesine Marwedel, produces lovely paintings using people as canvases.  It is so much more than just painting the body, poses, applications of colours used in the background to make parts of the body disappear, use of more than one person to create the shape.  To add to the beautiful images we have included 2 videos that show her process, one in normal lighting and one with UV lighting.

Painting Animals on Hands

Street Art, Graffiti and Mural Painting

Aaron Li-Hill is a Canadian Artist that is now working in the US.  He expresses his art in various different forms, painting, illustration, stencilling, with occasional sculptural elements within his works.  Hi background is in graffiti and mural painting, that is what we are going to explore in today's post.  We have included a video that shows more about what inspires and drives Li-Hill to making art.

Painting and Pottery with a Fish Theme

Indian Artist Niharika Hukku, now living and working in Australia, has a love for panting and pottery, which she successfully manages to combine in her work.  Amongst her pieces, we have chosen to feature her fish designs, where she really captures the grace of motion with the which they move.  The fluidity of movement of these paintings can really be appreciate when Hukku puts several pieces of pottery next to each other, where they look like freeze frames, moving from one pot to the next.

Drawing and Painting Hyper Realities

German Artist Dirk Dzimirsky is as capable with a paintbrush, as he is with a pencil.  Between the two he says, he prefers the pencil, as it allows him to use more complex layering and to add more form to the drawings.  Dzimirsky uses a photograph as a reference, once he has sketched the outlines and has all the proportions in place, he does not want to make a like for like copy of it, he wants his painting and drawings to be able to be read like the description from a writer.  Dzimirsky's approach to drawing and painting can be seen by the choice of his models, who have, deep and expressive looks, that portrays perfectly on canvas and paper.

3D Street Pavement Art Painting

Kurt Wenner sold everything he had, to move to Italy and become an artist.  When he arrived he did not have a lot of money left and was not allowed to work.  He used museums as his classroom looking and recreating drawings and paintings from some of the best artworks in the world.  His life took a positive turn when he was asked to work with a street artist and was given a share of the profit raised from the public.  From then onwards he realised he could make a living at this transient and temporary form of art.  To pass on some of the knowledge he has amassed during the years, he runs workshops, demonstrations and gives talks.  The first video will give you a bit more information about his beginnings.

Painting and Drawing Portraits with Dry Brush

In this post Igor Kazarin shows us and tells us about this amazing technique.  It is achieved by using a very small amount of oil paint, mixed with solvents like sewing machine lubricating oil.  A small amount is put on the brush which is rubbed in on the palette, to the point where the brush looks dry.  Now it can be used to paint on watercolour paper and any mistakes and highlights can be erased with a rubber.  This amazing paint effect makes painted images look like pencil drawings. The sped up videos below, will show you just how good this technique is and how the shades are layered to make the painting look so realistic.

Optical Illusions Body Painting

Recent winner of Skin Wars (a body painting show), Natalie Fletcher uses people's bodies as her canvas.  We think that all of her works displayed today are Optical Illusions, as they try and blend the person with their backgrounds, except for the first 4, that do not rely on a background to trick the eye.  We have included below a Video that tells you a bit more of how Fletcher got into body painting and the direction her career is taking now.

Oil Painting Realities

Reading his Bio, American Artist Steve Mills, seems to have had an eye for detail since an early age.  We have chosen a cross section of his Hyper Realistic Oil Paintings, showing his fantastic use of reflection and refraction in glass and some of our favourite board games and printed matter like books and newspapers. We have included an Animated gif to show a progression of one of his works.

Painting Prevailed in the Life of this Artist

James Neil Hollingsworth has had a varied and very interesting life, these are the highlights.  Straight after high school he joined the Air Force, once he was discharged, he attended night school while doing various jobs during the day.  He moved on to a technical school, becoming an aircraft mechanic.  From there he was invited to go and work in a graphic design business and a chance encounter, with an old friend, started a partnership in a typesetting / graphic design business.  When the business was no longer viable he went back to school and became a qualified nurse.  Through all of this the only constant was his art, that he managed to fit in whenever he could. Ten years later a friend of his, told him he was selling his art on the internet, so Hollingsworth worked as a nurse during the day, whilst painting at nights and weekends.  A lot of hard work, with long days and nights, eventually allowed him to leave nursing and paint full time, now his work is collected all around the world.

Jacqueline Poirier aka (The Crazy Plate Lady), is the Resident Artist at The Ritz-Carlton in Toronto.  As mentioned on the title, she paints on plates, her subject matter include: Abstract, Portraits, Canada, Animals and Food.  We chosen to feature a mixture of all of these subjects, in today's post.  Poirier has painted 1500 plates to date, as you can imagine, we have shown just a small selection below, have a look at the end of the post, there is a big group of plates, enlarge it to see it better.

Architectural Reality seen through an Airbrush Painting

British artist Ben Johnson has been exhibiting his work for the past 46 years, his work is included in the permanent collections of museums worldwide.  He specialises in architectural based paintings.  Johnson's work is painstakingly meticulous, making sure he picks up all of the details and recreating all of the colours as faithfully as he sees them in real life painting as perfect reproduction as he can.  We have included 3 videos that are going to show you a bit more about Johnson's technique and background.
