Flat Pack Furniture, the 2D Stool that Becomes 3D

Jongha Choi is an inventor, he is one of those people that if something doesn’t work properly, or if there isn’t a machine to provide a certain function, he doesn’t just sit back and make do without, Choi tries to solve the problem.  Amongst his ideas we have chosen his De-dimension stools, they appear flat and can be hung on walls, when needed, they can be taken down and transformed into 3D structure.  If you want to see more amazing furniture have a look on the left of the page, under Design and Architecture - Furniture Space Saving.

Inception Coffee Table and Rug Chair Furniture

Stelios Mousarris is a designer with a Degree in Modelmaking. Having worked for companies like Fosters and Partners and Duffylondon, he is now going at it alone, having formed his own company, Mousarris, he is able to experiment and challenge himself by creating his own designs.  In this post we are going to have a look at his Inception Coffee Table and his Carpet Chair and Sofa.  You can find more information in the post, below the pictures.

Precise Engineering in Transformer Cubrick Cabinet

This is the lovely Cubrick Cabinet, made by company, Yard Sale Project.  The cabinet has a twisting mechanism that when rotated opens and closes.  It is a way of keeping your room clean and tidy and it has no need for doors.  The company was set-up in 2010 and all the pieces are produced by Ian Spencer and Cairn Young in their workshop and studio in South London UK.

Transformer Shelving

This is a very different approach to furniture buying and arranging.  Most shelves and cabinets are designed for a a square space in your house.  This construction is modular and can suit very different areas you have at your disposal.  The modular structure allows you build at angles, for example, below the staircase.  You can wrap it around existing structures, like for example having shelving on both sides of the door whit a section spanning above it, encasing it.  Your imagination can make your home or your office stand out and ensure that every space even the most awkward, can be utilised.  This concept was the result of the collaboration of Erik Olovsson and Kyuhyung Cho

Magnetic - MAGfurniture

No more screws, nails, hammers, screwdrivers or Hex Keys to assemble your Furniture.  Sending a piece of furniture flat packed is something that saves a lot of money.  Ikea have made an art of this process and are now looked at, as the Kings of self assembled furniture.  Now there is a new player, Dutch designer Benjamin Vermeulen, he creates these pieces of furniture that just slot together with magnets,  See the video in the article in which @83nj4m1nv assembles the furniture in real time.  Imagine having to move or sell your old furniture, flat pack it and send, it couldn't get more hassle free.  The only thing that is missing is a price list so that we can compare this to his closest competitors.  Would you buy them?  How much would you be willing to pay?  To get the best effect, once in the article you can enlarge the image by pressing it (not the first one).

Stockwerk Foldable Bookshelf

Very different type of Bookshelf from the ones that are out there.  The Stockwerk does not need to be assembled, it has a concertina type action, where you just use the shelves you need.  Instead of having empty shelves, you just leave them collapsed till you have something to put on them.  This lovely and convenient piece of furniture is the creation of German Designer Meike Harde. 

Foldable Furniture

A bit of history, the first recorded use of a a folding chair was in 2,000 BC in Egypt and our modern chairs are based on the same principle of those early ones. Folditure are bringing this concept to a higher level using modern, light and thin, materials to construct their furniture.

Sinks for Small Spaces

Pixel is the name of this incredibly useful foldable sink, perfect for small spaces.  You could put it, for example, in the work place in a corridor between two rooms you want people to was their hands before entering, or the obvious ones a small flat or a Hostel.  The basin is made of collapsible silicone.  The rail on the side retracts as well for a more compact design.  When closed the Pixel measures 16cm or 6 1/4 inches. Rafa Arnalte is the designer and product developer of little wonder.

Office in a Block

You can literally wheel your small office from place to place.  The block can also be tethered to the electrical grid.  This piece of furniture provides 2 chairs a table and shelving.  I don't think this is a gimmick, as you can go to a venues like fairs, trade shows and expositions without relying on organisers to provide furniture for you.  This is the brain child of Tim Vinke, view the video in the article. 

Picture and Mirror Table

We have featured various space saving and multifunctional furniture for small spaces, this is another excellent idea, getting dual use from your mirror or picture frame, to form a fully functioning table.  This product seems to be made to go with the "Hanging Pick Chair".  The designer of this table, IVYDESIGN, suggests possible use in hotel rooms, coffee houses and lounges.  The table measures  1300mm x 850mm x 750mm. Small Flat paq Chair

Do you have a small flat or need to have a multifunction room and not just a bedroom?  This might be  ideal for you. The paq chair can be made into a bed and back into a chair during the day freeing up your floor space.  It comes in a variety of finishes and colours. Designer Géza Csire came up with this new concept.  Take a look at the video.

Column Kitchen

Have no space in you flat? Have no room to move but there is nothing you can do without?  Reduce your footprint of you kitchen and use the space for something else.  Usually images like this are destined to remain conceptual fantasies only.  The manufacturer of the ECooking, Clei,  is apparently going to start selling it in 2014. The designer of this new concept in kitchen is Massimo Facchineti.  More information and video below.
