Quilling Portraits

Successful international Artist and Russian born Yulia Brodskaya, now lives in the UK.  Quilling is a craft that uses strips of paper rolled and glued to create images, patterns.  Exquisite details and colours make up her Quilling Portraits.  We have decided to include some of her other work apart from portraits for you to see the variety of uses for this technique. It is not only nice to see but has practical applications for mostly Advertising purposes, giving the viewer a more interesting background for items we see every day.

Concept Architecture - Billboard Housing for the Homeless

Slovakian company Design Develop, has come up with an open source non profit platform concept to create homes for homeless people.  It would be wrapped in advertising to subsidise or, eventually pay for the construction and running costs of the home.  This initiative is called "Gregory Project", the case study is based in the Republic of Slovakia, in the city of Banska Bystrica.  The construction would consist of a timber joist frame with a concrete base.  More information below.

You as a Canvas in Body Painting

Emma Fay defines herself as a Conceptual Body Artist, creating these incredible paintings on people's bodies.  Our fascination is in seeing the various techniques she uses to bring to life the forms and shapes of the items or animals she is representing.  For example in the Teapot below she uses to people to achieve the shape and four in the Octopus.  Another trick Fay uses is, the use of colour of her backgrounds to make parts of the body disappear, by painting them the same colour (white on white backgrounds and black on black backgrounds).  This type of art has varied commercial applications, the biggest being the advertising world where it is immortalised in one of their advertising campaigns.  See our previous Post on Emma Fay here Body Painting Art.

Tea Calendar

This would have been one of the best Year End Presents if it wasn't for the fact that only a limited amount were made for an advertising campaign.  Every day you tear off a sheet of tea for the day indicated on it and melt it in a hot cup of water, with different tea flavours for different days.  The company that came up with this concept was German company Kolle Rebbe that mounted their advertising campaign for Hälssen & Lyon.

Retro - Vintage Ads For Social Media

On our travels through the web, we found this gem of an advertising campaign, that came out in 2010.  The creators, Brazilian ad Company Moma Propaganda launched ads for Social Media and the Internet, pretending they were available in the 1960s.  Imagine if that were true and we had over 50 years of Internet and Social Media, how different things would be now...

Wild Animals inside Scratchboard Drawings

Chilean Artist Ricardo Martinez, has created illustrations for publications, advertising agencies and comic books for a long time now.  He has worked for the biggest companies and brands in the world and is the creator of Goomer, a satirical comic strip.  Scratchboard is defined by Wikipedia as "Sharp knives and tools that are used for etching into a thin layer of white China clay that is coated with black India ink".  For the coloured images, more layers of clay in different colours are laid, so that the deeper the incision the more colours are available to the artist.  If you want to see more of this art, go to the top right hand corner of this site, in the "Search This Blog" enter Scratchboard and you will be able to see all of the posts concerning this beautiful form of art.

Photography and Digital Manipulation in Surreal Realities

German Photographer and Digital Artist Uli Staiger, started off as a Photographer working in a studio, moved from there to become freelance and then decided to go back to school to study photography.  It wasn't until he discovered and started using Adobe Photoshop, that his artistic horizons opened up, with and immense choice of creative possibilities, by combining photography and digital manipulation, just look at the beautiful elegance and Surreal worlds, he is able to construct.  He currently works for advertising agencies and as a trainer - tutor for video2brain where he is able to pass on, all of the experiences and knowledge he has amassed during the years.
