Architectural pencil drawings depicting buildings in famous cities and more.
South African Artist Robert Vorster drew all of the architecture you see on this page.
These drawings are intricately detailed and show aspects of buildings not seen in most depictions of famous places. The first two drawings refer to the famous part. The unique look of the Eiffel Tower and the fantasy-looking entrance to the Abbesses station, in Paris, France. Such beautiful design work in the metal structure and the glass covering. It is so beautifully captured by this drawing. The muted colours of the trees, as the buildings provide a wonderful backdrop thus allowing us to see the main structure in great clarity.
The next drawing I wanted to highlight is the fourth drawing down. The Quattro Canti, in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. Look at the detailing on this residential building. Most buildings of this type have maybe one or two of these details. Just look at how many this one has. I will list them in bullet point format: Iron and stone balconies. Quoins (they are the masonry blocks at the ends of a wall.) Look at the window surrounds. Some of them have carved stonework above with an inset statue. On either side of of the window are columns. There are two big statues recessed in the middle of the front facade and the list continues... Can you imagine how much it would cost to build something like this today? Can you imagine how much it would cost you to buy an apartment in there?
There are so many more features to discover in these and all of the other drawings in this post. I will leave you to do it in your own time. If you need a better look at them, remember to press the image. That is, all but the first one at the top.
A good strong post to start us off on this brand new Monday.
