Color pencil drawings of different kinds of merfolk.
American artist Heather Hitchman drew all of the creatures you see on this page.
Before I get into the drawings, I just want to say one thing: All of the drawings and creatures you see below have their own story. They can be seen on the artist's page/s. It really puts these beings into context and it goes a lway to making them corporeal. Real, in a way.
A group of extraordinary animals and mythical creatures come together to form this beautiful aquatic ensemble.
The drawings are precise, free of mistakes and beautifully coloured. They retain all of the right anatomical proportions of the animal, plus a fish fin on the lower end.
The colours are mostly water-inspired ones. They are: Blues, purples and greens. The odd brown colour is added to represent the cats and the bull.
Picking favourites is not made easy by the whimsical atmosphere that seems to envelop all of the beings on this page. Actually, I might want to take a couple of them out. I was going to say the bull and the dragon, but I think that would be a mistake. The detailing and the colours still make them at least, a bit whimsical.
To my choices now: The lion and the sweet little cubs have to be my top one. I think that once you see them, you will appreciate why. I like the bull for the opposite reason. The strength projected from the details in the musculature and that steely look. Lastly, the green hippocamp. It's such a stylish and wonderfully detailed drawing. From the top of the mane to the bottom of the fin, this is a perfectly executed drawing.
I wish you a Sunday full of whimsy to go with Hitchman's work. Have fun exploring both.
