Dragons and other mythical creatures in color pencil drawings.
Another lovely outing from artist Alvia Alcedo, who drew all of the animals you see on this page.
The drawings date to the beginning of Alcedo's work. If you look at the link below, you will see how we have followed her progress throughout the years. Even at the start, her art was exceptional.
Imagination and the composition are a big part of it. They form the basis of a greater combination of attributes that have helped her reach the mastery she has now acquired.
I really like and appreciate how she varies the colour of the background to complement her drawing and a creature. Continually creating art, experimenting and coming up with new concepts are the marks of the fantastic artist she is.
The first drawing down has to be my favourite. Look at how naturally and seamlessly the colours change on the wings. The transitions are beautiful to see and a real achievement.
In the second one I like all of the colours. Specifically, there are so many, but they are very well distributed and balanced. The colours follow patterns and a code of unspoken rules that make sure they don't look out of place when viewed. Something nature would create, if dragons existed and they had this variety in their colouring.
Dragons, mythical creatures and Saturday go hand in hand. I hope you have a waking fantasy day and you enjoy that as much as you do Alcedo's work.
