In case you haven't come across this style before, what follows is a definition that can help. The original Zentangle drawings were always created on 3.5 inch (8.9 cm) square tiles, with a view that tiles could then form a larger pattern when brought together. The style started off with a select number of patterns that then expanded. Plus, they were drawn in B&W.
The examples here are just one of the variations this style has gone through. The shape of the tiles has gone from square to circular and then triangular. Not only, now they are also created on normal sheets of paper. They are expressed in colours now and not only in ink, but pencils and paints. They are now also used as textures. They sometimes form the skin of animals. The first word of the first paragraph above, zentangle, is a link to all the posts we have here on DesignStack. There you will be able to see all the variations I spoke of in this post.
Like in yesterday's post, the thing that unifies all of the art on this page is details. Each one is a tightly packed expression of this aspect. Picking favourites is not as easy as it seems and describing them is not as succinct an endeavour as you might first envisage. I will let you experience the truth of those words in the art that is to follow…
