Nighttime figures depicted in pencil portraits with plenty of expressions and collected in sketchbooks.
Sim Sim who goes by sssimsim on Instagram created all of the portraits you see below.
The titles I have given the pictures are what I see in the people depicted by Sim. They are so expressive and their settings are so inspiriting that it's like they tell a story when I look at them. It's probably not what the artist was thinking when they were created, but it's a fantastic chance to let my imagination fly.
Many of these drawings seem to be set in transit somewhere. They are moving on foot or through some mode of transportation.
The most noticeable thing about Sim's work is the calm in the moment. I find that you can read these drawings in different ways. One side is the one where the reason for the expressions are not entirely positive ones. The ones where regret, fear, hurt and other memories seem to surface. Then there is the peaceful way that is a serene feeling, where thoughts can be of reliving nice memories, or the contentment of the moment. Or it could be a combination.
I guess a lot of your interpretations will come from the state of mind you are in. In this post, I am Imagining different scenarios as if you were playing a movie in your mind with alternate endings.
What do you see when you look at these images?
Ps. I gave the images some titles.
