Glass Symphony with Lampwork Glass Animals

Nikita Drachuk is a Ukrainian Artist that makes glass figurines using the lampwork technique.  This is, his definition of what he does: "Lampwork is the art of making glass figurines of glass, melted in the flame of a gas burner".  Even though he repeats some of the same designs in different and some times in the same colours, you are assured a unique item, as all of his creations, are hand made and therefore never the same.

Scott Bisson's love of glass morphing, started when he was a 17 year old student and was bending glass tubing over a flame in a high school chemistry class.  After pursuing his interest for a few years as a hobby, he took a class at the Pilchuck School of Glass, which marked a change in direction for Bisson, who has now been blowing glass for 19 years.  As you can see, he uses different styles and methods to get varied results for the same animals, he is always pushing himself to develop, improve and discover new ways of doing things.

Satoshi Tomizu (とみず　さとし) is a Japanese Glass Artist, that does amazing things with molten glass.  In this post, we are going to focus on his space inspired globes.  We have included two videos below, that show his technique and one of his pieces in more detail.  He has completed a huge amount of these orbs, we have chosen a selection of them, so that you can see how lovely and diverse they are.

Qualifying as a Landscape Architect Carol Milne then found a love and passion for glass work.  As you will see in the video below, she has been knitting from the age of ten and one day while she was sitting, she asked herself if she could translate the form and the loops created when knitting with glass and this is how the sculptures started. As well as the video there are a lot of different variations of her designs.

Glass Blowing and Solid Forms with 3D Shapes

Richard Satava creates amazing glass blown and solid form sculptures.  He works from his studio and gallery in Chico, California, which you can visit.  Here he comes up with complex procedures to allow him to construct the intricate designs he is famous for.  The glass that you see below and above is not painted it is made using different coloured sections of glass.  The videos below will tell you more about his history, technique and you can see Satava at work.  It is amazing how, in his solid glass forms, he is able to construct 3D layers of different coloured glass, to form the shapes of the jellyfish, that almost look like the real thing, swimming in water in a glass jar.

The Cracked Portrait, Pencil Drawing and Glass

In these Hyper Realistic drawings, Japanese Artist Taisuke Mohri, uses striated shards of glass to deform and stretch, his otherwise perfect Portraits.  It's an amazing technique, that adds interest thanks to the imperfection that the glass causes.  We have included, for most of the drawings, details, so that you can appreciate the effect of the glass and the perfection of the execution of the images.

Nature in a Sculptured Glass Orb

This was a real find, Paul J. Stankard an American glass artist that encapsulates nature in his globes and glass forms.  We have included 2 videos that go into his life history and how he came to producing these intricate glass sculptures, so we are going to skip this.  The images can be enlarges so that  you can see some of the amazing details he manages to add in them.  Maybe more beautiful that the finish piece is seeing Stankard producing these small masterpieces, you can see it in the first video.  The second one goes a bit more in depth into his work and his relationship with the Akron Art Museum, which houses the largest public collection of his work.

Emulsifier - The Anamorphic Glass Sculpture x4

Thomas Medicus created this amazing anamorphic (an object or an image that can be seen in its true form, only if viewed from a specific angle) sculpture.  The piece is made with 160 glass strips which, when rotated produce 4 different images, with a new one appearing every 90 degrees.  The 4 images are painted with the same paints that stain glass windows are painted with, each section of glass was worked on separately.  The video below will show you how all of the above come together in these amazing moving images.  Enjoy...

Solar Kinetic Miniature Sculptures in a Glass Goblet

Polish Engineer and Artist Szymon Klimek constructs fantastically detailed miniature sculptures.  From all the ones he has done, we have chosen the kinetic, moving ones and what better way of showing them, than video?  We have included six of them plus images to give you a better feel for the beauty of these small machines.  They are powered by electric or natural light and made of very thin brass sheets.  Klimek fits them in a goblet which he tops with a transparent sheet to keep them protected and to make sure they are dust free.  When watching the video you will see that, as well as the movement of the machine, the goblet is turned to show a 360 degree view of the sculpture and all of its details.  Amazing work...
