Beautifully detailed Model Maker Michael Paul Smith, created Elgin Park a small world set in the 1950s.  As well as his work he is proud of 3 things.  1 He does not use Photoshop.  2 He does not use a fancy camera or lenses, he uses a point and shoot 6mp camera.  He shares his techniques with everyone and that might be one of the reasons why he has such a large following. More amazing photographs and video in the article.  Once in the article you can enlarge the image by pressing it (not the first one).

Lori Nix is different from most Photographers as she doesn't go out to find her subject but creates / constructs them to scale in her studio.  An all rounder Nix has to construct paint and photograph her miniature worlds. She does it all without the use of photoshopping software.  This part of her work has a distinctive Post Apocalyptic feel about it.

London based Artist Michael Sydney Moore, has a talent for being able to see the spark that makes our eyes, faces and expressions unique and particular to every one of us.  He then skilfully manages to transport them on the canvas while, at the same time, adding his own interpretation, without spoiling the likeness and the essence of his models.

Everyday Life in a Model

American Artist Alan Wolfson sculpts these incredible realistic models of small portions of the world we live in and frequent every day.  His models are built 1inch = 1foot scale, not everything he constructs has a counterpart in the real world, but when does replicate, he takes a lot of reference pictures to capture the essence of the place he is going to reproduce, down to the posters and lighting (Placement and access to lighting is very important for maintenance).  He never goes out to buy a finished detail, he constructs everything himself using plastic, wood, cardboard, paper and various types of metal.  On average it takes Wolfson between 3 to 9 months to construct one of his models, depending on the difficulty (like lighting) and the level of detail in the piece.  More information in the Article.  We have included 2 Animated Gifs for some of the models, and some of the images can be enlarged just look out for the prompt below them.

Evan Penny is an amazing sculptor that concentrates not only on making his works as realistic as possible, but has a real particular and spellbinding way of studying the way we view each other.  To see this, you must watch the video it is really fascinating, the way he uses 3D sculptures to symbolise the way we perceive people. More of his sculptures below the video.  Even though he does not keep a meticulous track of time, Penny estimates that, the small sculptures take him about 200 to 300 hours to complete and it is no wonder when you see the finish result.  The first 3 sculptures come with a photograph of the model.

Model Box 3D

No comments:
Printing is now beginning to go 3D but it isn't still for the masses, it is quite expensive to have products made and more expensive to buy the actual printer. Model Box 3D provides a way of producing  simulated 3D image from a series of 2D transparent sheets.  This system can be of use to a variety of people, from art students to sculptors for low budget prototyping.  Laura Krause and Eric Sagotsky are currently trying to raise the money they will need for production, from Kickstarter.  When it raised you will be able buy the kit which includes the Acrylic Box, 28 inkjet or laser printable transparencies and the software to turn your designs into a series of flat layers to print.  Some images will come with the kit and you will have access to a repository online for more.  We have loaded 3 videos that explain the origin and practical uses of this 3D display case.
