Sustainable Architecture with the $4000 Home

After graduating from Arts College, Dave Herrle started his working life with an office job, which he says "he hated".  After a hike of the Appalachian Trail he realised two things, one, this life was not for him and two, there was something very appealing in a simple life.  Actually there was a third, that he was glad he made this realisation when he was 27 and not 67.  Six years after the hike he is a full time carpenter, he has set up Herrle Custom Carpentry and built his home for $4,000 building it in 6 weeks.  Now he loves his work and his life with his wife.

Custom Micro Architecture under 15m²

In this post we will be looking at 2 Micro Homes or Habitations created by Full Moon Tiny Shelters.  The Birdhouse built on an (8ft - 2.4m) by (16ft - 4.8m) trailer and the Harmony House built on an (8ft - 2.4m) by (20ft - 6m) trailer.  These buildings are becoming a necessity now, for some people that see the cost of homes and the price of land, as out of their reach.  There is a lot of thought that goes behind their design and construction, we will go through it further in the post.  The prices are not fixed as these homes are very customisable, this aspect can bring up or down the final bill, the company averages the cost at 1 square foot = $250 to $300 or 1 square meter = $22.50 to $27.  The video in the post will show you a clear walk through both constructions.

Australian Artist Sean Edward Whelan creates these Architectural People.  He now lives and works in Japan and is inspired by the rapidity with which the contemporary culture is changing there.  We were really impressed with the way that he manages to retain the human form using an amalgamation of buildings and even more by the the different poses he creates for his building mannequins.  Magnificent for any artist leaning how to portray and experiment with movement in their figures. The Coloured images are (acrylic and sumi ink on wood mounted paper) the Black and White are (pencil on paper).

Car Vinyl Wrap with the Rust Treatment

Clyde Wraps in Glasgow, Scotland, came up with a custom one of a kind design car wrap for one of their costumers.  The client brought in a brand new top of the range Volkswagen T5 Transporter Sportline and asked for a custom rust look.  Clyde Wraps were happy to oblige and came up with this fantastic design.  The high level detailing help sell this concept, adding fake metal panelling and rivets.  The owner told Clyde Wraps that the design was so convincing that he was stopped by the police to assess the road worthiness of the van, before they realised it was a vinyl wrap.

Architecture in Paris Home, 25m² Doorman’s Room and Cellar

When his friends bought a doorman’s room and cellar 25m² (269 ft²) next to their workplace, Architect Jérôme Vinçon customised it for them, so that they would get the best and most out of it.  Michel Craca is a head chef and Gaelle Potel is a maitre d’ in the same restaurant.  One of the most important parts of the flat was a fully functional kitchen for a professional chef.  The flat is divided on 4 levels: Toilet Shower / Room - Sitting Room - Kitchen - Bedroom.  There is only one window through which, natural light can come in from.  Splitting the levels, but leaving them open, means that 3 out of the 4 levels gets a certain amount of natural light.  The only one that does not is the bedroom in the lower level.  Have a look at the video and the images below to get a better picture of this custom and highly efficient use of space.
